Feature of the Day – Local butcher and 2024 MasterChef Runnerup, Josh “Pezza” Perry, is back with Graze the Region showcasing local produce including Cape Grim and Robbins Island Wagyu beef, Black River lamb, Three Friends abalone, TOP Fish octopus and Blue Hills honey while conversing with some of the primary producers.
New this year will be MOTO Trial Bike demonstrations throughout the day.
Ritchie and the Edith Creek Bullock Team – amazing to watch Ritchie work his bullock team while listening to his wealth of knowledge and experience.
You will fall in love with Bonnie and Nuggett of Almost Heaven Clydesdales, who will be offering free rides in their wagonette. They will be accompanied by some friends including “Sox” the lamb.
Entertainment – Burnie Highland Pipe Band and local singer, Andrew Grey. Thank you to major sponsor Woolnorth Renewables for sponsoring Almost Heaven Clydesdales and entertainment.
You will be able to watch a shearer in action who will be accompanied by the Sea Eagle spinners. There will be a working blacksmith in Ryan Callaghan and sheep dog demonstrations by Pandara Kelpies will be held throughout the day. Enter your dog in the High Jump with two categories – small and large dogs. Can try your hand at Sheaf Tossing with a Ladies, Novice and Open competition with cash prizes on offer for both competitions. Must be over 15 years of age for latter.
Westbury Steam World will be providing a scale model traction steam engine and will be offering rides in the small trailer it tows. A small Fairground Organ built in England in the 1970s will play background music.
Eddie Freeman of Unique Chainsaw Sculptures will be carving his magic on the day. Damien Smith will have a display of working models.
The Animal Nursery organised by the Radford Funny Farm is always very popular with all ages. Evastaff Farm will be on hand with their pygmy goat display offering information. There will also be a display of ferrets who may even compete in a race towards the end of the day.
Free for all ages will be laser tag run by Lynden’s Laser Tag and Emma the face painter. Join Mr Shaggles on his custom made trike as he turns his audience into jugglers, acrobats and performers.
The McCains Country Showgirl and Showboy competition will follow the Opening of the Show at 12 noon by the President, Tony Hine, and Josh Perry. Categories include Junior Country Young Person and Country Young person. No need to register to enter.
The Historical Machinery Club, NW Veteran Car Club and NW Bird Club displays are always popular and it will be great to welcome a display by the Lobster Ponds Haven from Flowerdale.
There will be an informative display from Scott of North West Snake Catchers who will have an array of reptiles.
Cattle competitions commence Friday evening with the Young Paraders and Judges competition. The competition for Equestrian, Trade, Stud Beef and Dairy cattle continues throughout Saturday – see Cattle schedule for times.
The Smithton & Districts Community Bank Exhibition Hall is a “must see” on the day with homemade products, preserves, handicraft, photography, floral entries, school entries and so much more.
The culmination of the day is the Smithton & Districts Community Bank Grand Parade which assembles on the main arena at 3pm, showcasing the best of the livestock exhibited throughout the day along with other surprises.
There are also food and a variety of stalls displays, including machinery, and sideshow alley. A cold meat and salads buffet with hot potato will be on offer in the main function room as well as morning and afternoon tea.
